Bairnsdale City is situated along the banks of the magnificent Mitchell River, an easy three hour drive east of Melbourne on the Princes Highway.

Bairnsdale with a population of 12,000 - is the main commercial and retail centre of East Gippsland and is East Gippland's largest town.

Bairnsdale is the gateway to the fine Gippsland Lakes, beaches and rivers, mountains, snowfields and the more remote Far East Gippsland making it an ideal base from which to explore the diverse range of attractions available in this area.

The Bairnsdale Visitor Centre, next door to the famous St Mary's Church, has an extensive range of information to assist in your enjoyment of our region.
